Translations vary regarding the keep your hand upon me verse of Jabez’s prayer. I like to think that Jabez was asking for God’s blessing on him and everything he did. Some translations say keep your hand over me. I would interpret that translation to refer to protection but later Jabez asks to be kept from harm.
During our wedding ceremony, the preacher placed his hands on our bowed heads to bless our marriage. I like to think that this verse relates to blessing us in everything we do or think. But it could also mean to restrain us from acting impulsively. Or it could relate to guiding us – like you put your hand on a child’s shoulder as you guide him down a crowded hallway.
What do you think? I pray that God will bless you indeed today and every day.
